Arizona Sheriff Slams Recount Company Over 'Mind-Numbingly Reckless' Demand For Gov't Passwords

Arizona Sheriff Slams Recount Company Over 'Mind-Numbingly Reckless' Demand For Gov't Passwords

In Arizona, a private company supported by Republicans has been holding a recount of the 2020 election results.

Their obvious goal is to bring the results of the election into doubt and make conspiracy theories the vote was stolen from Donald Trump seem more probable.

The company holding the recount is now demanding "access to government internet routers and passwords."

Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone called their actions "mind-numbingly reckless and irresponsible."

Penzone issued a statement saying:

"The Senate Republican Caucus' audit of the Maricopa County votes from last November's election has no stopping point. Now, its most recent demands jeopardize the entire mission of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office."

The company conducting the recount, Cyber Ninjas, was hired by the Arizona GOP.

If their request was met, they would have access to a large amount of confidential information, including voters' "voting histories, addresses, phone numbers and Social Security numbers."

Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel commented giving Cyber Ninjas access to the government's routers "might compromise county and federal law enforcement efforts and put the lives of law enforcement personnel at risk."

Twitter had its doubts the Republicans' hired company had the nation's best interests at heart when requesting access to private routers.

Perhaps county officials should take their sheriff's advice on this one.

Thus far, no signs of widespread fraud or irregularities have been discovered by multiple audits in multiple states.
