Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic candidate who won her district's primary over a ten-term incumbent earlier this summer, was recently criticized for her sense of style.

Ocasio-Cortez is a very outspoken Democratic socialist, so when she was seen wearing an expensive outfit--the total retail cost of which was $4,100--Fox News saw an opening for a line of attack.

Katie Pavlich and Pete Hegseth on Fox and Friends threw some pretty intense shade:

"The rising star of the Democratic Party has expensive tastes for a socialist," they began.

"I mean I want a pair of $600 shoes. I think she should redistribute…hypocrisy at its best," said Pavlich.

"It's tough being a socialist. It really is," said Hegseth.

Also, Charlie Kirk--a well known conservative activist--called Ocasio-Cortez out over Twitter.

But all were missing one important point: why exactly was Ocasio-Cortez wearing this outfit?

For a photoshoot for Interview Magazine and a following interview/conversation with Scandal's Kerry Washington.

So...whoops.

But Ocasio-Cortez was quick to respond:

"Get used to me slaying lewks." Put that on our tombstone.

The internet is also providing points of support for the 28-year-old candidate.

And some people are really shaming her for complying with the magazine, as if she had a choice:

This guy seems to have missed the point completely:

But, thankfully, most people realize that Charlie Kirk is just tone deaf.

Kirk quickly pulled a typical conservative "What About"-ist move:

But...nobody is fooled.

Things are looking good, as Ocasio-Cortez only needs the support of the 14th district of New York to be elected to office. So look out everyone, a fiercely dressed socialist is likely headed to Congress in November!

As he waited, a CNN reporter approached him with a question whose answer usually involves some variation of “inspiration,” “history,” or “science.”
