In one of the more touching teaching moments that has gone viral on social media in awhile, a teacher found one of their students was using pencils upon which the student's mom had handwritten affirmations.
The teacher was running low on supplies and put out a call in the class for pencils. One student requested they be able to keep the pencils their mom made them and of course the teacher said yes.
However, the student agreed to share a few of them because the messages were important.
The messages—easily over 20 of them—featured sentences that uplift and affirm the student.
They included:
- "You are knowledgable."
- "You are a math whiz."
- "Proud of you every day"

“From a Teacher ❤️ ✏️

Today I was running low on pencils so I asked all of my kids to pull out any of my pencils that they had in their desks. I had one student ask me if he could keep his pencils that his mom gave him for school. Of course, I said yes.

He then said, “well, I…”— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CALL TO ACTIVISM) 1686160416
People congratulated the mom on being awesome, adding affirmations into her child's school day.

“@CalltoActivism @DLgodlessbitch Definitely an awesome mom and human being, to say the least!”— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CALL TO ACTIVISM) 1686160416
“@CalltoActivism This is what being a great human is all about—the mom by writing on the pencils, the student by being willing to share with the others, and the teacher for sharing.”— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CALL TO ACTIVISM) 1686160416
Many people were deeply moved by the gesture.
“@CalltoActivism @ThealGail As a daycare teacher of 17 years, I ❤️ this so much, I cried when I read it! One thing I came across a long time ago at a training we had was something to the effect that it is both scary and good as well that everything you do has an impact on a child. Such a sobering thought.”— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CALL TO ACTIVISM) 1686160416
“@CalltoActivism @joncoopertweets Am in tears reading this, thinking of all the children, who don't have this love, and encouragement in their lives, right now. 💔 This little guy has a really fabulous Mom, and his teacher seems terrific, as well. 💫”— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CALL TO ACTIVISM) 1686160416
“@CalltoActivism I'm not crying. You're crying 😭”— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CALL TO ACTIVISM) 1686160416
Others shared what they used to do, or currently do, for their own little scholars.
“@CalltoActivism I used to write messages on the mirror in our sons bathroom with dry erase each morning. The weather forecast, if the day was important (ie someones bday, etc) and then something along these lines. They eventually would leave notes before bed that I would find. Good stuff.”— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CALL TO ACTIVISM) 1686160416
“@CalltoActivism Put little notes - some handwritten and some pre-made - in my kids’ lunches all through school. Never underestimate the influence positive supportive words can have in a child’s life💜❤️”— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CALL TO ACTIVISM) 1686160416
“@CalltoActivism Love this mom and child! Brought back a memory of writing notes which I placed in my kids' lunchboxes. One of the moms called to tell me that her child loved it so all the moms at my child's table started writing notes for their kids. Little things can make a world of difference.”— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CALL TO ACTIVISM) 1686160416
Shouldn't we all strive to make that much of a positive difference in a kid's day?
“@CalltoActivism @lucindy24 Every parent/grandparent/guardian/important person in a child’s life should be this involved. Such a small gesture can make such a LARGE difference. Been there/Done that. Thanks to the Teacher who took the time to share this. ❤️💕”— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CALL TO ACTIVISM) 1686160416
School is almost over for the year in North America, but this sort of message can inspire people for next year.
