Jaleel White Hilariously Reveals NSFW Reason Urkel Stopped Wearing Jeans On 'Family Matters'
Nov 25, 2024
If you're of a certain age, there is no pop-culture nerd more iconic than Steve Urkel, the geek-next-door on the '90s sitcom Family Matters played by actor Jaleel White.
But while he may have been a nasally dork constantly getting into mishaps that made him say "Did I do that?," it turns out Urkel had a rather un-Urkel-esque secret: He was packin'.
That's according to White, who said during an appearance on the Mad Dog Sports Radio show that Urkel had to go through a bit of a wardrobe adjustment as White grew up—in order to accommodate his increasingly noticeable bulge.
White was just 12 when the show began filming in 1989, but by the time it went off the air in 1998 after nine seasons, White was a full-on adult of 21.
So of course that means he quite literally grew up on camera. And it caused some trouble with Urkel's nerdy jeans—which were of course hiked up as high as possible in a manner that, you know, tends to hug certain parts of the male anatomy. The slang phrase "moose knuckle" comes to mind.
Given that Family Matters was part of the family-friend "TGIF" line-up on ABC, that was obviously a no-go, whether it was Urkel or his incredibly smooth and dashing alter-ego Stefan Urquelle on-screen.
White told the radio show's hosts:
“In the final season of Family Matters, it was decided — I was not a part of any of these not sessions — it was decided that I would no longer wear jeans, because they just looked just too tight."
"And if you’ll notice, on the final season of 'Family Matters,' Steve only wears khakis.”
White elaborates on this in his newly released memoir, Growing Up Urkel, writing that bosses on the show said:
“'We want to keep this character going, because everybody knows the character, but we just don’t want certain characteristics anymore.'"
'Let’s get rid of the suspenders. Lower his pants, too. Oh, and . . . it’s getting a bit uncomfortable watching him in tight jeans. There’s a, uh . . . bulge.'"
White goes on to write that he was relieved by the wardrobe change, because those nerdily tight jeans weren't just embarrassing, they were also uncomfortable:
“By the time I entered college in 1995, when the show was in its sixth season, I was peeling myself out of tight Urkel jeans like a banana.”
Yeah, sounds like!
Naturally, people on social media got quite a kick out of learning that Steve Urkel of all people was packing major heat in his britches.
If you want to read even more details of Steve Urkel's heaving bulge, Growing Up Urkel is now in bookstores!

Miley Cyrus Gives Sound Advice To Chappell Roan About How To Navigate Toxic Social Media
Nov 25, 2024
Singer Miley Cyrus told Harper's Bazaar that people need to stop giving Chappell Roan a "hard time."
Roan's meteoric rise after her 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess became a sleeper hit this year has put her in conflict with fans and critics because she's been so open about massive fame coming on so rapidly and changing her life overnight.
Roan has also taken to social media, often via TikTok, to communicate her frustrations with fans who've invaded her space and privacy, at one point saying "I don’t want whatever the f**k you think you’re supposed to be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity. […] I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior, OK?”
Now Cyrus, who has been famous since Hannah Montana turned her into a household name as a teenager, has weighed in when asked to comment on Roan's rapid rise:
“I wish people would not give her a hard time. It’s probably really hard coming into this business with phones and Instagram. That wasn’t always a part of my life, and I’m not a part of it now."
Then, she noted just how disconnected she's chosen to be from social media and trolling, adding:
"I don’t even have my Instagram password.”
Cyrus' advice resonated with many, who also remarked on parasocial relationships intrusive fans develop with singers like Roan.
Cyrus told the magazine that most of her online activity comes courtesy of her boyfriend, drummer Maxx Morando, sending her internet memes.
Cyrus, whose relationship with, marriage to, and divorce from actor Liam Hemsworth made tabloid headlines for years, has dated Morando for several years now with little to no fanfare. The magazine noted that Cyrus "is keeping her current romance relatively private—a sign that she’s taken some lessons from the past."

Jennifer Lawrence Reacts To Trolls Saying She's 'Not Educated' Enough To 'Talk About Politics'
Nov 25, 2024
Academy Award-winning actor Jennifer Lawrence opened up to CBS Mornings' Gale King about her new Apple TV+ documentary Bread & Roses—and had a new flash for all the trolls claiming she's "not educated" enough to tackle political subjects.
Bread & Roses, which was produced by Lawrence and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, explores the lives of Afghan women under Taliban rule since the group seized control of Kabul in August 2021. Director Sahra Mani recently shared that Taliban policies have been so oppressive that women are barred from working, singing, playing music, dining out, shopping for food, or even walking in public without a male chaperone.
Regarding her decision to produce the documentary, Lawrence said:
“My first reaction when watching that [Taliban takeover] was to do what the Taliban did not want us to do, which was to give access and facilities to the people on the ground to capture what was happening on the ground in real-time."
"I can’t imagine not being able to take a taxi or not being able to listen to music. I can’t imagine if just the sound of my voice was illegal.”
Concerned about the film's subject matter, Lawrence's family and friends "definitely encouraged me not to [produce the film]," she said, adding:
"It’s dangerous. Of course it is. But there is 20 million women whose lives are in danger.”
She also spoke about her experience with trolls who've claimed she’s not educated enough to talk about politics let alone this subject matter:
“[Trolls] always say different things. I did a ’60 Minutes’ interview once where I explained that I dropped out of middle school, so I technically am not educated. A common one with this [documentary] is ‘why is someone without an education trying to talk about politics?’ To that I say it’s not political, it’s peoples lives.”
“It’s political in the sense that you should push your congresspeople and you should get involved to make our government more accountable. Then the UN can recognize gender apartheid. But I don’t find it political. Also, I am educated in filmmaking. I’m educated in telling stories.”
You can hear what she said in the video below.

A review from Variety describes Bread & Roses as "a necessary howl of rage, one that argues cogently — via the simple expedient of capturing life as it is lived — that to ignore what it happening in Afghanistan is to condemn half the population of the country to oppression under a dictatorship that is both political and personal."
The film is now streaming on Apple TV+.

Ending a relationship is never easy.
Some couples are at least lucky in that they could bring their relationship to an amicable end, and even remain friends after breaking up.
Others, however, sometimes can't get out of a relationship soon enough, and make every effort to never see their ex-partner again, with some even going so far as to move to another town, city or even country,
However, heartbreaking though these situations may be, there is still something to be gained after going through it.
You will always learn something new about yourself after going through it, as well as more about your partner and even those who are close to you who saw you go through it.

Conservative Senator Has Warning For Tulsi Gabbard Over Confirmation Hearings
Nov 25, 2024
In an interview with CNN's Dana Bash, Oklahoma Republican Senator James Lankford explained why he anticipates the Senate Intelligence Committee will have questions for Tulsi Gabbard, whom President-elect Donald Trump has nominated to be the next director of national intelligence.
Gabbard has drawn criticism for her connections to foreign adversaries, including a 2017 meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
During her tenure in Congress, Gabbard made an unannounced trip to Syria to meet with Assad, explaining that "if we profess to truly care about the Syrian people, about their suffering, then we’ve got to be able to meet with anyone that we need to if there is a possibility that we can achieve peace.”
In a 2019 MSNBC interview, Gabbard remarked that Assad—accused of using chemical weapons and other brutal methods in a conflict that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives—“is not the enemy of the United States,” citing the lack of a direct threat posed by Syria. She later characterized Assad as a “brutal dictator.”
Lankford gave the following response when Bash asked him if "anything about [Gabbard] concern[s] you":
"We'll have lots of questions. She met with [Syrian leader Bashar Assad]. We’ll wanna know what the purpose was and what the direction for that was, as a member of Congress."
"We’ll wanna get a chance to talk about past comments that she’s made and get them into full context. There's comments that are floating out there but we want to know the full story."
You can hear what he said in the video below.
Many on social media have also voiced their concerns.
What legit, legal meeting could she have had? At best, she was trying to shape international relations with Syria, which would have violated the Logan Act (not that the USG ever upholds that law, but never mind)... at worst, she was trying to arrange something far worse.

Sure hope they aren't expecting an ounce of truth from her!
— jodimustdie.bsky.social (@jodimustdie.bsky.social) November 24, 2024 at 8:58 PM
And it's very likely that Tulsi will look you straight in the eye and lie to your face, just as 3 Supreme Court appointees did.
— Pere Jes (@perejes.bsky.social) November 24, 2024 at 8:03 PM
We already know the answers. Gabbard is a foreign agent.
— RK (@rickkeen.bsky.social) November 24, 2024 at 7:52 PM
Legitimisation of Syrian dictator, it's obvious.
— Andriy (@andriy-kov.bsky.social) November 24, 2024 at 4:42 PM
Only 36 percent of respondents to a CBS/YouGov poll released Sunday said Gabbard is a good choice for director of national intelligence. 27 percent said she’s not good and 36 percent said they haven’t heard enough.
Trump has ignored these criticisms, announcing in a statement that Gabbard "will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career to our Intelligence Community, championing our Constitutional Rights, and securing Peace through Strength."
