The rapper took to X, formerly Twitter, after 'People' magazine incorrectly listed Shawnita Hathaway as his mother.

Rapper Lil Nas X set the record straight with an NSFW response on X (formerly Twitter) after People magazine incorrectly identified his mom.

The 24-year-old music artist, who emerged onto the scene with his 2018 single, "Old Town Road," is very vocal when it comes to dealing with online trolls.

And when it came to the outlet's reporting snafu on his family history, Nas made no exception.

In a now-deleted archived article, the publication mistakenly reported that Nas' mother was a woman by the name of "Shawnita Hathaway."

In response to the People article, Nas shared the now-expired link and fired back:

“Y’all just be creating people. cuz who the hell is Shawnita Hathaway?"
"I did not come out that lady p*ssy."

The "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)" singer, who was named after the Mitsubishi Montero, is a two-time Grammy Award winner and the youngest recipient of the prestigious Hal David Starlight Award.

Nas' parents divorced when he was five years old.

And while his father, Robert L. Stafford, a gospel singer who has appeared as his famous son's guest at various public events, gained full custody and raised his son, not much is known about the rapper's mother.

Fans commented on the gaffe.

Nas talked about his broken relationship with his mother in a 2021Vanity Fairinterview, saying:

“I never really talk about my mom. She’s an addict, so we don’t have the closest relationship."
"Even trying to get her better—things didn’t quite work out. But there’s still love…"

He said of his fame and stardom:

"The biggest surprise of becoming globally famous? On the outside, everybody loves you—but on the inside, everything [feels] the same."

Gaye magazine wrote an article in which it referred to Nas' mother as "Tamika."

The publication wrote about Stafford defending his son after he faced backlash for turning a blind eye to a video allegedly showing his mother appearing to be begging for food.

To control the narrative, Stafford wrote about Nas' strained relationship with his mother and said of his son:

“Despite what people say @lilnasx is the greatest kid a parent can be BLESSED with."
"Although his mom is in a struggle with an addiction she’s STILL a QUEEN and he goes through great lengths to make sure we’re taking care of."
"Those who have family members and friends dealing with addiction understands that there ain’t enough money you can throw at this situation to make it right."
"I don’t usually address personal issues publicly but felt like this need to be."

He concluded with:

"Please join us in keeping her in your PRAYERS. And to those out there trying to create a false story you won’t prosper."
