Emma Watson, best known for the Harry Potter movies and Disney's live action Beauty and the Beast, boldly declared her support for trans rights.
In a tweet on Thursday, Watson posed, strong-armed, in a shirt that read "Trans Rights are Human Rights," tagging prominent trans rights groups and charities Stonewall, Mermaids, All About Trans, and Gendered Intelligence.
There were many who were enthusiastic about the support.
Trans rights organizations thanked the star for her message.
There were, however, some disagreements.
Watson's show of support came at a pivotal time, ahead of the closure of the UK government's consultation on reforms to their 2004 Gender Recognition Act. While no one knows the exact form the new law will take, trans, non-binary, and non-gendered people are hoping to smooth out a process that can be harrowing and invasive.
Support from the star is very appreciated.
