Paul Giamatti Gave A Special Nod To In-N-Out With His Oscars Outfit—And Fans Are Loving It

The 'Holdovers' star sported some In-N-Out cufflinks at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday, paying tribute to his viral moment after winning a Golden Globe in January.

Paul Giamatti gave a subtle nod to his favorite California-based burger chain while looking snazzy in his Dolce & Gabbana tux at the 96th Academy Awards ceremony.

While many celebrities were dressed in their sartorial best—and accessories to match—on the red carpet, Giamatti, who was up for a Best Actor nomination for The Holdovers, went a slightly more humble route for the glitzy Hollywood affair, and many fans may have missed it.


While standing on the red carpet with longtime girlfriend Clara Wong, Giamatti cheekily wore In-N-Out cufflinks to riff on the viral meme of him celebrating at the famous burger joint following his Best Actor Golden Globe win back in January.

Social media user @giamattihead shared an image of Giamatti showing off the emblematic red and yellow In-N-Out logo cufflinks on X (formerly Twitter), writing:

"Just thought you all should know Paul Giamatti wore In-N-Out cufflinks last night."

Giamatti became an instant icon after he was spotted dining with his trophy at the Westwood In-N-Out location near the Beverly Hilton where the Globes were held.

Because that's how he rolls.

Here he is, casually scrolling through his smartphone as he basks in the glow of the statuette placed in front of him among assorted French fry trays, beverage cups, and greasy paper burger wrappings.

So iconic.

But fans of In-N-Out won't be able to order the store-branded cuff links with their Double-Double combo anytime soon.

Stylist Michael Fisher said in an email that Giamatti's In-N-Out cufflinks were custom-made by men's accessories retailer Cufflinks Depot.

Said Fisher of Giamatti's In-N-Out obsession:

“Paul LOVES the restaurant and always makes a stop when in LA."

Giamatti's pocket square, courtesy of Tampa Monogram Embroidery, was embroidered with the initials of his Holdovers character, Paul Hunham, and was preceded by his character's final quote from the movie, "See Ya!"

Fans found Giamatti very relatable for his fast food preference.



The cufflinks prompted envy.


 



In January, Giamatti remarked after being named best actor at the Critics Choice Awards:

“I didn’t think my week could get any better than going viral for eating a cheeseburger.”

Giamatti ultimately lost the Oscar to Oppenheimer lead Cillian Murphy, who played the title role of American theoretical physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer.

But Giamatti remains a champion of good taste, in our eyes.
