Pro-Choice Activist Becomes Instant Icon After Taking Mail Order Abortion Pill During Live TV Debate

An activist stunned an audience in the most badass display of pro-choice activism we've seen in a while.

Pro-choice activist and former Satanic Temple spokesperson Jex Blackmore made headlines this week for taking an abortion pill during an abortion debate.

The debate—appearing on Fox News 2's segment Let It Rip—was between Blackmore and pro-life activist Rebecca Kiessling. It took place on the 49th anniversary of the Roe v Wade decision that established the right to abortion.

That important and protective ruling is in jeopardy, however, as the Supreme Court looks poised to rule in favor of stricter abortion restrictions in a Mississippi 15 week abortion ban case.

Blackmore, during the debate, was arguing for the safety of mail-order abortion pills when she decided to demonstrate.

She said:

“I want to show you how easy it is, how safe it is, by taking it myself."

Blackmore took out a small, white FDA-approved pill called "mifepristone," which, when combined with misoprostol, is used to terminate a pregnancy before 10 weeks. Then, on live television, took the pill with a sip of water and smiled.

Stunned, the host and moderator Charlie Langton asked Blackmore if she was pregnant.

She responded:

“I would say that this is going to end a pregnancy...This will be my third abortion.”

While Kiessling was shaking her head in disapproval, Langton quipped:

"That doesn't happen very often!"

In a penned statement with Detroit Metro Times, Blackmore stated that she took the pill on live TV to help de-stigmatize the use of abortion pills and prove that they are safe for consumption.

She wrote:

"Abortion is a common and safe medical procedure surrounded by stigma. Stigma keeps people silent about their personal experiences and creates space for harmful, inaccurate narratives."
"My action was intended to dispel some of those myths, misinformation, and stigma. I wanted to share, that for many of us, it's a simple process and with mail-order pills, we can have an abortion on our own terms."

Twitter users are obsessed with the activist demonstration by Blackmore.

At the end of the debate, Blackmore told viewers that they can access abortion pills on the website shareabortionpill.info, which will mail customers abortion pills for $150 and has resources for financial aid, miscarriage and abortion hotlines, and reproductive legal advice.
