Gwyneth Paltrow Has Fans Chuckling Over How Little She Cares About Marvel With Latest Comment

Marvel fans know actress Gwyneth Paltrow appeared in seven Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films as Virginia "Pepper" Potts, the CEO of Stark industries.

But the Academy Award winner herself isn't keeping track.

The Goop founder appeared to draw a blank when asked about a new Marvel spin-off series on Disney+ during an Instagram Q&A with followers.

When a fan asked Paltrow “Have you watched the Hawkeye series??”, she said:

“No, what is that?”

For the uninitiated, Hawkeye is the latest miniseries on Disney+ starring Jeremy Renner, who reprised his role as the eponymous arrow-slinger from the film franchise for Marvel studio's fifth television limited series.

It takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which Paltrow's Pepper made a cameo along with Renner's character.

Paltrow's response was par for the course given her history of having no recollection of the actors or of the numerous Marvel projects she's been in–including filming a scene with Spider-Man actor Tom Holland in Homecoming.

During an appearance on his Netflix cooking show, Jon Favreau–who directed Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and played Tony Stark's friend, Happy Hogan–had to remind Paltrow about being in the film with Holland after she legit forgot about it.

Some Marvel fans were not very forgiving.

Others were fine with her cluelessness.

Paltrow consistently seems to need a refresher about anything Marvel-related despite her involvement in the films, Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012), Iron Man 3 (2013), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

In July 2019, Actor Sebastian Stan, who played Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier in Captain America and in the Avengers movies, threw subtle shade at Paltrow for not recognizing him for a third time.

"Also glad I got to reintroduce myself to @gwynethpaltrow for the third time," he wrote on social media after seeing her at a couture show at Paris Fashion Week. "We are in the same film...”

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige reported on Paltrow being confused about Samuel L. Jackson's presence on the set of a funeral scene for Avengers: Endgame, implying she was not entirely aware of his character, Nick Fury.

It stands to reason she didn't hear about the Hawkeye series.

Also, Marvel's infamous shroud of secrecy about new films in production can make it a challenge for actors with smaller roles to know what Marvel movies they're in.

Back in 2019, Paltrow addressed why she had difficulty keeping track of her Marvel resume.

“It is confusing because there are so many Marvel movies, and to be honest, I haven’t seen very many of them."
"It’s really stupid and I’m sorry, but I’m a 47-year-old mother.”
