The 'Inside Amy Schumer' star's 3-year-old son, Gene, was admitted to the hospital with RSV on Thursday as Schumer was in rehearsals to host 'Saturday Night Live'.

Amy Schumer blessed our television sets Saturday night as the comedian and actor flawlessly delivered gut-busting lines on Saturday Night Live.

What we didn't see, however, is what went on behind the scenes - what Schumer calls the hardest week of her life.

On Sunday, Schumer shared on Instagram that her 3-year-old son Gene was hospitalized due to RSV (respiratory syncytial virus).

In her Instagram post, Schumer not only revealed the hardship she endured last week but also shared her gratitude for the cast and crew of SNL.

She captioned her post:

"This was the hardest week of my life."
"I missed Thursday rehearsals when my son was rushed to the ER and admitted for RSV. Shout out to all the parents going through this right now."

RSV has been spreading at alarmingly increasing rates this fall.

Schumer continued:

"I got to be with him the whole day at the hospital and the beautiful humans at @nbcsnl couldn't have been more supportive."
"My son is home and better."
"The reason this show is so fun to do isn't actually the performance or the show itself. It's getting to spend time with the people there."
"The cast and the writers of course but the people who are behind the scenes making it run smooth are my favorite."
"The crew! Donna. Jerry. Jodi. Genna. Tom Wally and on and on."
"Lorne has assembled the most talented people with the kindest hearts."
"Thank you everyone there and to the doctors and nurses who helped us."

Many responded to Schumer's post, applauding her for her performance as well as wishing her little man well.

Brooke Shields Has Hilarious Reaction After She's Given Awkwardly Short Chair On 'Today' Show

People who have not performed in front of a live audience might assume that adequate rehearsal time and production planning ensure things will go smoothly.

But seasoned performers will tell you that mistakes happen, no matter how well-rehearsed or fine-tuned the project is. When the mistake is obvious enough that the audience becomes aware of it, the best thing to do is laugh it off or incorporate the mistake into the program as much as possible to keep the show going.
