In a conversation posted to the popular subReddit "Gatekeeping," a strange text conversation showed that an anonymous vegan was furious at a chef for "appropriating" veganism by cooking with tofu.
The conversation, posted by Redditor b*tchyswiftie, showed an escalating amount of rage from a person who messaged another for their tofurkey dinner recipe.

After the receiver of the message qualified that they were not vegan or vegetarian, but rather does not like the "texture and taste of most meats," the sender began berating the receiver.
"So you're like pretending to be a vegan cause its cool and in? I've been vegan for 3 years now and it was the best decision I've made in my life. It's not hip or cool. It's important."
@ThePoke This is insane. Most vegans would be delighted that a meat eater liked Tofu better than meat.— Sourheum Ⓥ (@Sourheum Ⓥ) 1516182584.0
@Sourheum @ThePoke foreal, if this person was texting me i wouldve been glad asf that they enjoy tofu better than meat— 😈💕 (@😈💕) 1516292197.0
@sugarballsx @ThePoke That's the kind of behaviour you want to encourage!— Sourheum Ⓥ (@Sourheum Ⓥ) 1516297572.0
"Tofu is strictly for vegans vegetarians," the messenger continues.
"You are basically admitting to appropriating us and stealing what we need for your own selfish use."
At this point, the receiver has had enough.
"With all due respect, I'm not appropriating anything. I'm eating food I like you absolute f*ck."
@ThePoke @Tim_Arnold1977 Get a grip. We don't moan when you go into our pub and drink our beer do we?— Andrew Blatherwick (@Andrew Blatherwick) 1516207415.0
Have your beliefs, just don't be a militant prick about it. https://t.co/cme2hrECLH— Tom (@Tom) 1516186051.0
Redditors on the forum were just as perplexed by the messenger's dialogue as the frustrated receiver was.
"'Stealing what we need for your own selfish use,' Is there a tofu shortage that I don't know about?" said user KatCorgan.
"I want to know what happened after those dots at the end. I've been vegan in the past, and still have plenty of friends who are, and I can't think of a single one who wouldn't agree that this person has issues," said NimrodBusiness.

The gatekeeping subReddit defines gatekeeping as "when someone takes it upon themselves to decide who does or does not have access or rights to a community or identity."
Who knew that tofu would contain an identity?
