Happy National Boyfriend Day! Today girlfriends and boyfriends celebrate the special man in their life. It's unknown who exactly created the day or when, but National Boyfriend Day has been celebrated on October 3 in the United States since at least 2015, according to What National Day Is It?

The holiday is sometimes also known as National Boyfriend's Day. It joins other new and old holidays celebrating special people in everyday life, including Mother's Day, Father's Day, Grandparents Day, and also National Girlfriends Day, which is on August 1.

1. It's a Day for Doing Nice Things for Boyfriends

Today is a day meant for celebrating things that boyfriends like. Whether that means going to dinner, catching a movie, or taking the day for golf, girlfriends and boyfriends can treat their S.O. to one or all these things.

In fact, some companies have even begun to run specials for National Boyfriend Day.

However, the holiday has yet to be fully commercialized like more famous ones.


2. Not Everyone Likes National Boyfriend Day

Single people especially have been vocal about their dislike for the new-ish holiday. Twitter is rife with tweets about how National Boyfriend Day is unnecessary, as there is already Valentine's Day.

But there are other complaints about the holiday, too.

According to the Metro, common complaints about the "meaningless" holiday include that "every day is National Boyfriend Day" and that there is already "Steak And Blowjob Day," too, which many perceive as being a National Boyfriend Day.

Steak And Blowjob Day occurs on March 14.


3. National Girlfriends Day Is Not Like Today

While it may sound similar, National Girlfriends Day is not like National Boyfriend Day.

National Girlfriends Day was created by the social networking site, www.sisterwoman.com.

The day is intended to foster and celebrate friendships between women.

There is no National Girlfriend Day like today.
