The singer edited the NFL kicker's bigoted graduation speech on Instagram to be a positive message for 'my girls, my graduates, and my gays.'

Singer Katy Perry had social media users cheering after she edited Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker's misogynistic graduation speech for Pride Month.

Butker made national headlines last month for a misogynistic and anti-LGBTQ+ commencement speech criticizing working women, reproductive rights, surrogacy, and LGBTQ+ rights at the ultra-conservative Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.

Perry posted on Instagram a heavily edited version of Butker's speech along with the following caption:

ā€œFixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays — you can do anything, congratulations and happy pride šŸ³ļøšŸŒˆšŸ³ļøāš§ļø 🧔"

Butker appears to say the following in Perry's edit:

ā€œFor the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you're going to get in your career?"
"I would venture to guess the women here today are going to lead successful careers in the world. I say all of this to you because I have seen it firsthand, how much happier someone can be supporting women and not saying that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world."
'The road ahead is bright, things are changing, society is shifting and people young and old are embracing diversity equity and inclusion.ā€
ā€œWith that said, I want to say happy Pride Month to all of you. And congratulations Class of 2024.ā€

You can see the video below.

The edited video is of course a far cry from what Butker actually said.

Perry's post is just the latest high profile reaction to Butker, who urged male graduates to "fight against the cultural emasculation of men," claimed that "abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerative cultural values in media all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder."

Addressing women graduates directly, he added:

"For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you."
"Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world."

Butker also claimed that he is "beyond blessed" because his wife Isabelle "would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.ā€ He said her "dream of having a career might not have come true, but if you ask her today if she has any regrets on her decision, she would laugh out loud without hesitation, and say, 'Hey, no.'"

The football player also denounced Pride—a celebration of LGBTQ+ solidarity and identity as resistance to discrimination and violence—as "dangerous gender ideologies," further describing it as a commemoration of "deadly sins ... that has an entire month dedicated to it." He called on graduates to adhere to "the true God-centered pride that is cooperating with the holy ghost to glorify him."

People loved Perry's response.

Butker has only briefly responded to the controversy surrounding his speech and he has yet to comment on Perry's impressive editing of his speech.
