Actor Jennifer Lawrence had the internet buzzing last week because of what she calls a "blunder."
Lawrence sat down with Viola Davis as part of Variety's "Actors on Actors 2022."
In a now viral video, Lawrence said this of her role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games:
"I remember when I was doing Hunger Games. Nobody had every put a woman in the lead of an action movie, because it wouldn't work, we were told."
"Girls and boys can both identify with a male lead, but boys cannot identify with a female lead."
Needless to say, the statement didn't go over well on Twitter.

Lawrence spoke to The Hollywood Reporterand admitted her nerves got the best of her, claiming what she said "came out wrong."
She clarified:
"That's certainly not what I mean to say at all."
"I know that I am not the only woman who has ever led an action film."
"What I meant to emphasize was how good it feels."
"And I meant that with Viola - to blow past these old myths that you hear about...about the chatter that you would hear around that kind of thing."
"But it was my blunder and it came out wrong."
"I had nerves talking to a living legend."
Many on Twitter appreciated her acknowledgement:
“Jennifer Lawrence Clarifies Remark About Female-Led Action Movies.
I can't believe that there are people who actually thought that Jen could think of herself as superior or something, but I'm glad she's humble and can clear things up.❤️”— ~ Lu ~ (@~ Lu ~) 1670540986
She literally talks in this interview about how she hates doing press because of how often the media and public will twist her words and what she says. And here we have yet another example of it. I do feel for her and other ppl who with platforms who have anxiety for this

She stumbled. Give her a break. She's probably never seen Alien...

Some, however, weren't buying it.
She meant exactly what she said. Now that she’s getting backlash for it, she suddenly didn’t mean it. Come on.

It didn't come out wrong. She got caught and then she went into mop up the mess mode.

There's no clarifying, she said what she said.

😆 😆 Humble? She meant every word of it. If she was actually nervous, as she claims, she would have heard herself say that AND then clarify. This is damage control that even the government agencies are going, "can't put out that fire with a teaspoon of water"

It came out wrong? That's an odd way of trying to explain a blatant lie.

You said it. It didn't come out wrong

People appreciate JLaw owning up to her mistake.
Here's to all the female action heroes who paved the way.
