Dating in the modern world has so many new avenues to meet people and get to know them before making a hard commitment. But sometimes you just have to take the leap and risk it all, even if that means you end up ghosted.

But maybe you shouldn’t risk being stranded across the country for a man you’ve barely spoken to.

Samantha, a TikTok user, shared her nightmare dating story that left her ditched in another state.

According to Samantha (@sdenoyer), she started talking with this guy after he sent her a DM. They shared a mutual friend and Samantha “liked the vibes.”

They pair eventually agreed to meet in person through a facetime conversation. However, this didn’t go as planned.

She said:

“I flew across the country to meet a date – when I woke up from a nap he was gone along with all of his stuff.”

The doomed date surprised people online.

Samantha described what happened in another TikTok. The plan was only for two nights. She arrived close to midnight on the first day, but the next morning, they get a hotel.

They got brunch and did stuff downtown, and while things seemed okay, Samantha did say some things were off.

They went back to the hotel to drink and play board games, after which Samantha decides to take a nap before dinner that night. Her date goes to the bathroom during this time.

When Samantha awakes, her date is gone with his stuff and her bottle of vodka.

The girl is left confused, and tried to get ahold of her date, but he doesn’t answer. Their mutual friend is able to get him on the phone and hears loud music in the background, but he quickly hangs up.

He just ghosted.

Samantha is eventually able to get some kind of response from this boy. He claims there was a family emergency.

When Samantha questions the loud music and why he took the vodka, he deflects and eventually stops answering.

Unfortunately, we may never know what really happened here. But I think we’ve all learned a valuable lesson.

Never let a date steal your vodka.

Samantha safely made a flight home and is wiser for the experience. A lot of comments suggested she should never have paid for the flight herself, which isn’t bad advice, but Samantha hates owing people things.

And next time she’ll keep an eye out for those red flags.

One early headline, "100 Days Of Hoaxes: Cutting Through The Fake News," was notable but did not include a direct link to a story.
