Texas Daycare Worker Fired For Leaving Fat-Shaming Note In 5-Year-Old Boy's Lunchbox

Texas Daycare Worker Fired For Leaving Fat-Shaming Note In 5-Year-Old Boy's Lunchbox
NBC2

Francesca Easdon's 5-year-old son is a picky eater.

She has been slowly introducing him to healthier choices in his lunches to try to help him find healthy foods he enjoys.

She put a note in with one such healthier lunch thinking it would make him smile at lunchtime. Instead, she received a scathing note scrawled at the bottom of her own note by a member of the daycare's staff.

Easdon said she was shocked when she first read the note from a staffer at Rocking Horse Day Care in Kingston, Texas. It took a while to process exactly what she had read.

"It took a minute to register, what I even saw and I just kept re-reading it and I just stood there for a minute."

Her original note was an expression of love and encouragement for her son.

"Please tell [my son] that his mommy loves him so much and that I'm thinking about him."

But the one she received in return was nothing but hate.

"No! Put him on a diet + go away!"

Easdon decided to share her story on Facebook, after meeting with daycare staff, as a cautionary tale for other parents.

"We have been working with Kyler on his eating, he's extremely picky! I have been introducing new healthy options in his lunchbox and discussed the changes with his school."
"For the record, I feel that Kyler is absolutely perfect the way he is, I'm just helping him make healthier choices."

She expected the daycare staff to be on board with supporting Kyler's healthier choices, but they were not.

"Instead of his school being supportive I am in absolute shock at what happened."

After recovering from the shock of receiving such a detestable response, Easdon took action.

"Of course I was absolutely livid and immediately reached out to the school."

She and her mother-in-law met with the daycare director the following morning and were assured they were working to rectify the situation.

The teacher who wrote the note evidently owned up to their actions and was fired, but that didn't change the staff's attitude toward the issue.

"The teacher that wrote this note confessed while I was at work and was fired, but nothing has been done about the other situations. Zero remorse for their actions."
"I am disgusted that I put my trust in these people to care for my child and this is what I get in return."

She has since moved her son to another, more expensive, daycare in hopes that it will be a safer environment for him.

"I'm worried about the higher cost but I will make it work, no matter what I have to do. Kyler's safety and level of care comes first."

She closed her post with a warning for other parents to be aware of how their children are being cared for and to avoid the facility where this occurred.

"I'm extremely hands on with my child's care and still didn't see this coming. Monitor your daycares closely and stay away from this facility, they do NOT deserve the privilege of teaching our children."

Easdon's full post and a photo of the note can be seen below.

Easdon told NBC2 she was surprised an adult who takes care of children for a living could hold those attitudes and express them in such a way.

"To know that a grownup that knows how hard life is and knows how mean people can be can say something like that—especially about a child. They're sick. There's something wrong."
