People Share The Best Compliment They've Ever Received That They've Never Forgotten

A compliment can really turn your day around.

You have nice eyes. You have a great smile. You make me feel good when I see you. Any one of us, when we hear these things, immediately change our attitudes around.

u/pink_peperomia asked:

What compliment have you been told that you never forgot?

Here were some of those answers.

Making Art More Accessible

For a large public event, I was hired to play the US National Anthem on the organ for all to sing.

To make the "high notes" more manageable for the majority of people attempting to sing it, I transposed it down into a more comfortable key.

Afterwards, a guy and his girlfriend introduced themselves, thanked me for playing, and said that for the first time ever they were actually able to sing the National Anthem without having to drop out on the high notes (or use a falsetto voice).

One Man's Humiliation

I've shared this before, but hey, it cheers me up whenever I think about it:

The best compliment I ever got was by accident.

I was walking along the street with my friend, when a young boy and his mother overtook us, and the boy was dumbstruck by me, and was practically walking backwards to stare at me. I was used to it and tried to ignore it. I have dwarfism, making me 4ft tall and my limbs disproportionate to my body. It also affects how I walk. The staring is just part of my life.

Except my friend was absolutely baffled. She asked "What the hell is that kid's problem?" I laughed, thinking she was just trying to be nice and make me feel better, but I realized by the look on her face that she genuinely didn't understand what the boy was staring at. I hesitated and said "Well...you know," gesturing to myself.

She frowned at me for a couple more microseconds, before suddenly looking incredibly embarrassed. "OH, I'm sorry! I totally forgot!"

Seeing her genuine revelation made me so happy, I just started laughing. It felt amazing to know that she 100% saw me as 'normal' and couldn't think why someone would find me strange. I couldn't stop smiling for the rest of the day. She just felt embarrassed.

I May Never Come Down To Earth Again

"when I first saw you, my mind went blank"

Never coming down from that one, boys.

I had terrible self-esteem all throughout high school, and thusly never really asked anyone out or dated.

I did a study abroad in Korea, and got the courage to ask for the KakaoTalk number of a girl I met on a University tour in Busan.

We flirted over text

Me: "I normally pretty shy, I don't normally do this"

Her: "You shy? I'm the one who's shy! If you're shy, then how'd you manage approach me?"

Me: (thinking: be smooth for once in your life) "Because I knew I'd regret not saying hi to you" (dude good job 🤝)

Her: "yea, I felt the same way. When I first saw you, my mind went blank"

Quid Pro No

An ex-con told me that 'you would survive well in prison'.

Apparently, not down to me being a Jack Reacher style bada**, but because I don't like accepting favors from people.

The Warm Fuzzies

"You're always really romantic which says a lot about who you are"

"it's all the little moments like this that make me realise how lucky I am to have you" and

"people don't really say this to guys, but I think you're beautiful".

They may not all be quite word for word, but I still feel warm and fuzzy thinking about them

How Sweet

Yesterday a girl in my boyfriend's friend group told me that people in the group keep saying I'm such a sweet girl. That made me so happy cause I always feel like I have this darkness and selfishness that I try hard to suppress and stay away from.

It's An Okay Life For You

"I never worry about you two; you're doing just fine."

Said to a friend and me, by our history teacher, who was known for always complaining that the students weren't prepared for their futures, weren't taking their education seriously, were being coddled by poor parenting, etc.

A Smile Through Our Egos

I was walking past the library in university, looked up, and there was a pretty girl walking the opposite direction. I flashed a smile at her as we passed, and she turned around and yelled "You have a beautiful smile! Have a great day!" across the courtyard as we continued on our separate ways.

Totally made my day that day, and still makes me smile to think about.

Worth Your Weight In Cows

I think it was a compliment. Some guy in New York City told me "in my country, you would be worth many cattle". I still regret that I didn't ask for specifics. Like, are we talking cows only? Or are you lumping in goats with that?

Thinking Behind

I left my first husband of almost seven years (two weeks before the anniversary) and spent six months weeping and in pain. I would go over to my brother and sister-in-law's house once a week for dinner and would usually end up crying on their couch after the kids went to bed. My brother was just sitting next to me and said, without introduction, "I think you're incredibly brave." It really helped me reframe my thinking about the whole event.

Hillary Clinton Just Threw Some Epic Shade At Trump Over His Push To Print $250 Bills Featuring His Portrait

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton mocked President Donald Trump following a report he approved a proposed design featuring his portrait on a new $250 bill bearing his signature, despite longstanding federal law barring living people from appearing on U.S. currency.

According to four current and former Treasury Department employees who spoke to the Post anonymously out of fear of retaliation, two political appointees at the department—U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach and senior adviser Mike Brown—repeatedly pressed Bureau of Engraving and Printing staff beginning last year to develop prototype designs for the bill.

Florida Cop Gives Woman Ticket For Allegedly Driving With Phone In Her Right Hand—Only For Her To Reveal She's An Amputee

Kathleen Thomas, 36, was pulled over in February by a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy over an alleged distracted driving violation captured on both Thomas’ phone and police body cam footage.
