Democrat Brought Up Stormy Daniels to Make a Point About Republican Impeachment Hypocrisy and They Were So Not OK With It

Democrat Brought Up Stormy Daniels to Make a Point About Republican Impeachment Hypocrisy and They Were So Not OK With It
CBS NEWS

Representatives on the House Judiciary Committee debated the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Thursday. The proceedings unsurprisingly led to some spirited debate.

One notable moment came when Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) brought up Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress whom Trump paid to keep quiet about an affair the two had when she threatened to go public with it ahead of the 2016 election.

Lofgren reminded her Republican colleagues that former President Bill Clinton was impeached for "lying about sex."

Watch below.

Lofgren said:

"[W]e could put Stormy Daniels' case ahead of us. We don't believe that's a high crime and misdemeanor, and it's not before us, and it should not be before us because it's not an abuse of presidential power."

While Trump did repeatedly lie about the affair, Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) pointed out that Clinton lied about sex under oath to a grand jury:

"The important thing is that Bill Clinton lied to a grand jury. That is a crime. The articles of impeachment that passed the House accused Bill Clinton of lying to a grand jury, a crime and something that obstructs the ability of the court to get to the truth. This is not what is happening here. Big difference."

With the exception of written answers to Special Counsel Robert Mueller during the Russia investigation (in which there is evidence he lied), Trump hasn't testified under oath, let alone before Congress.

While Sensenbrenner was technically correct, people still loved the point made by Lofgren.

Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, currently sits in prison for campaign finance violations in his payments to Daniels, which he testified were ordered by Trump himself.

Lofgren is the only congressperson to have been present for three impeachments, having been a congressional staffer during the Nixon impeachment.

Stephen Colbert Makes Somber Plea To Americans In Wake Of Charlie Kirk's Death

Late-night host Stephen Colbert had a somber message for Americans as he addressed the assassination of far-right activist Charlie Kirk, stressing that "political violence only leads to more political violence."

Kirk died after an unidentified gunman shot him in the neck as he—ironically enough—mocked victims of gun violence at an event in Utah Valley State University. Kirk's murder has galvanized the far-right, with President Donald Trump and his surrogates claiming without evidence that rhetoric from Democrats is responsible for Kirk's death.

TikToker Hilariously Calls Out Target After Champion Pants Feature Awkwardly-Placed Front Pleat

Sometimes you can just tell when something was designed *for* women, but was not actually designed *by* women.

Take, for instance, the new pleated pants available at Target from the Champion clothing line. While there's nothing wrong with pleated pants and they certainly have a suitable spot in the workplace, the latest rendition of Champion pleated pants are, shall we say, NSFW.

Woman Goes Viral After Revealing How Her Obsession With Matcha Landed Her In The Hospital

Let's be honest: Too much of anything isn't good for us. It's all about the balance!

But the media and social media trends have taught us that certain things are really good for us, encouraging us to be like the "very mindful and very demure" girls and take care of ourselves. One such example is drinking more matcha, especially if you really like coffee or think you have a caffeine addiction.
