James Cromwell Glues Hand To Starbucks Counter To Protest Surcharge For Plant-Based Milk

James Cromwell Glues Hand To Starbucks Counter To Protest Surcharge For Plant-Based Milk

82-year-old actor James Cromwell, known for such roles as Farmer Arthur Hoggett in Babe and Dr. Zefram Cochrane in Star Trek: First Contact, is in the public spotlight for a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) publicity stunt he participated in on Tuesday.

He sat on the counter of a Manhattan Starbucks with his hand glued to the counter, wearing a PETA t-shirt with the words "Free The Animals" on it. Cromwell and his companions were there to bring attention to the fact plant-based milk alternatives often come with an upcharge for the customer.

During his demonstration, Cromwell said:

"There's no reason for it except greed."
"Will you stop charging more for vegan milk?"
"When will you stop raking in huge profits while customers, animals and the environment suffer?"

In a statement, he further said:

"My friends at PETA and I are calling on Starbucks to stop punishing kind and environmentally conscious customers for choosing plant milks."
"We all have a stake in the life-and-death matter of the climate catastrophe, and Starbucks should do its part by ending its vegan upcharge."

Twitter was merciless in their takedown of Cromwell's stunt in particular and PETA in general.

Many questioned Cromwell's priorities, given the current attacks on reproductive rights and shortage of infant formula.

A spokesperson for Starbucks said in a statement:

"Customers can customize any beverage on the menu with a non-dairy milk, including soymilk, coconutmilk, almondmilk, and oatmilk for an additional cost (similar to other beverage customizations such as an additional espresso shot or syrup)."
"Pricing varies market by market."

While there are alternatives for covering the extra cost of plant-based milk alternatives like raising prices slightly across the board, gluing one's hand to the counter and making a likely already overworked barista's job more difficult is not likely to make much of an impact on corporate-level decisions at Starbucks.

And aligning with an animal cruelty perpetuating organization like PETA—cited for their absurdly high kill rates at the animal rescues they run—is unlikely to persuade the public to your side.

Trump Is Getting Roasted After Wearing A Strangely Un-Trump-Like Outfit Following His Mamdani Meeting

President Donald Trump was widely roasted after he stepped out on Saturday in something other than his usual suit and tie following his bizarrely chummy meeting with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

Trump isn't the world's snappiest dresser; he's known for wearing ill-fitting suits and his hair is often unkempt (and don't get us started on his orange makeup).

Fortnite Just Dropped A Massive 'Bus Load' Of Homer Simpsons In Santa Monica Without Warning

Marketing in today's day and age can be tricky. It's never been easy to break through the noise in advertising, but today's marketers are competing with people at the top of their game.

Residents of Santa Monica, California, were met with an unusual sight earlier this week when a bus full of people dressed as Homer Simpson poured into the streets. The visit appeared to be part of a promotional stunt for the newly launched “Fortnite x Simpsons” season of the popular online game, whose recent update introduced a Springfield-themed island.

Fans Defend Millie Bobby Brown After People Rush To Judgment Because Her Baby Cried During Video Shoot

It's easy to rush to judgment when we witness someone behaving a certain way or making a decision that's different from what we would do.

It's arguably even easier to rush to judgment about celebrities, whether or not this was something done consciously in front of fans or viewers on television or social media, or in a candid moment when they didn't know they were being watched or recorded.

Zohran Mamdani Doubles Down On Calling Trump A 'Fascist' After Bizarrely Chummy Meeting

New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani doubled down in an interview with Meet the Press on his decision to call President Donald Trump a "fascist," saying he sticks by something he's already "said in the past."
