Mike Pence Was Just Asked About Donald Trump's Claim That Previous Presidents Told Him They Should Have Built a Wall, and It Got So Awkward

Riiight.

Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday struggled to defend President Donald Trump's claims that all former presidents have expressed support for the construction of a border wall.

“This should have been done by all of the presidents that preceded me, and they all know it,” Trump boasted during a news conference without providing evidence. “Some of them have told me that we should have done it.”

On Today, Pence said Trump was referring to "border security" after NBC's Hallie Jackson told Pence that "all the representatives" of previous presidents "have denied that is the case."

And Pence tried to defend Trump's indefensible lie.

“I know the president has said that that was his impression from previous administrations, previous presidents,” Pence said. “I know I’ve seen clips of previous presidents talking about the importance of border security, the importance of addressing the issue of illegal immigration.”

Watch the awkward exchange below:

While border security has been an important issue throughout many administrations, all four living former commanders-in-chief have denied ever speaking to Trump about a border wall.

Many believe that Pence is just lying—as is the expectation of the current administration.

Some are disappointed that the media lets Trump and Pence lie with impunity.

If their mouths are moving...

Following his interview with Jackson, Pence was asked by ABC's Jonathan Karl: “How can the president be, how can his word be trusted on this, when he has said so many things that are just not true about this crisis?”

Pence scoffed, falsely claiming that “the American people aren’t as concerned about the political debate.”
