It's been 30 years since a Democrat was elected to a Senate seat in Arizona, but with Democrat Kyrsten Sinema's victory over Republican Martha McSally, the winning streak for conservatives has been broken.
Six days after Election Day, McSally conceded the victory to Sinema saying:
"I just called Kyrsten Sinema and congratulated her on becoming Arizona's first female senator after a hard-fought battle. I wish her all success as she represents Arizona in the Senate."
The seat is being filled as Republican Senator Jeff Flake announced he is retiring. Many see the victory as more proof that Democrats are gaining momentum in the sunbelt states. Sinema is the first woman and open bisexual to hold a Senate seat in Arizona's history.
Congratulations began pouring in.
She making history in more ways than one.
The people are happy.
Congratulations Senator Elect Sinema!
