A man on TikTok is sharing tips on how to get car salespeople to leave you alone at dealerships.
TikToker @russflipswhips, a car salesman himself, revealed that most of our go-to strategies only add fuel to their selling fire.
Shopping for cars can be a daunting experience in and of itself, but when you add relentless stalking and talking on top of it, it becomes nearly unbearable.
But apparently that's because we're doing it all wrong.
The TikToker began his video by telling viewers that their biggest mistake is telling the salesperson, "I'm just looking."
"There's two main reasons, and here's what you should say instead of 'I'm just looking.'"
He disclosed the first reason they stay on top of us even though we've made it very clear we're simply browsing.
“One is, we hear it every single day."
“So when somebody tells me ‘I’m just looking,’ I’m so used to hearing that, I almost like brush it off and ignore it, because I’m like, ‘That’s what the customer’s supposed to say.’”
And the other reason is because this phrase is rarely effective.
“Secondly, every car salesman has had a customer say, ‘I’m just looking,’ and we ended up selling them a car."
So what should we do instead?
According to the TikToker, it's just a matter of honesty.
“I’d say, ‘Hey, I’d really like to look alone. Can I please have your business card?’”
You could also try telling them:
“I’m really not in the market for a car.”
The creator finished his TikTok:
"But don't say, 'I'm just looking.'"
"It's not gonna work."

While viewers of this TikTok appreciated the tips, many stated that if a salesperson lingers after they state they're "just looking," they will take their business elsewhere.
