Anthony Mackie Called Out After Jokingly Saying Tyler James Williams Was A 'Weird-Looking Kid'

The Marvel star was hit with backlash after he joked during 'Variety's Actors on Actors' that Williams grew up to be a 'good-looking dude' despite being a 'weird-looking kid.'

The internet came to Tyler James Williams' defense after fellow actor Anthony Mackie ribbed him about his looks as a child actor.

On Sunday, Williams, who can be seen on Abbott Elementary's third season, sat down with MCU's Captain America star Anthony Mackie for Variety's annual "Actors on Actors" segment to discuss their careers in the entertainment industry.

While the two Hollywood cohorts carried on jovially from the start, one of Mackie's comments rubbed Williams' fans the wrong way.

Mackie noted his colleague's successful career trajectory was handled with a level of "dignity" since being a child actor.

Williams thanked him and said he endeavored never to be a "nostalgia artist" and always looked to see what opportunities lay ahead for him.

Williams returned the sentiment, expressing that Mackie was also to be commended for his successes.

To which Mackie quipped:

"Naw, but you was a weird-looking kid, and you grew up to be, like, a good-looking dude."

Williams retorted:

"I wanna say, we were all 'weird-looking' kids."

He continued:

"Mine was just documented. I haven't seen your photos."

Both actors cracked up over the silly discourse, as the "weird-looking" comment was clearly made in jest.

Still, some social media users found it a little mean-spirited on Mackie's part.

Those who didn't see the humor threw major shade at who they deemed a bully.

Others thought everyone needed to calm down.

After all these years, it turns out everybody loves Chris.

But seriously, both gentlemen are at the top of their game right now in Hollywood, and they have the winsome looks to boot.
